Sekar Jagad Batik Motif

This motif comes from Kasunanan Surakarta, known since the 18th century, with various main and filler decorations. The Sekarjagad motif represents knowledge and experience that has been "skilled" (qualified) as well as the hope of gaining more knowledge for those who wear it. Apart from that, the Sekarjagad batik motif is batik that depicts the meaning of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. It is believed that the Sekarjagad motif comes from the words kaart (map, in Dutch) and jagad (world, in Javanese). The literal meaning of Sekarjagad is a picture of the beauty of the diversity of various ethnic groups on this earth.

The characteristic of the Sekarjagad motif, which is depicted as a map, can be seen in the curved lines that resemble the shape of islands next to each other. What's unique is that the Sekarjagad motif looks irregular, just like other batik which has a repeating and regular pattern. Sekarjagad Batik itself is characterized by the presence of isen-isen (derived from the word isi) in the "islands" with various motifs, for example kawung, truntum, slope, flora and fauna and so on. Sekarjagad is a symbol of the beauty of the diverse diversity that exists in the world.
